I live in Illinois in lake county and I want to buy property were I'm at. (Currently renting). But then I thought about it and wondered what keeps people buying rental property in Illinois when we have the second highest taxes in the country? In lake county, its the highest in the state. So should I Invest elsewhere (I heard you get the bet bang for you buck Arizona or even Detroit) or should i look for deals in Illinois?

Post: So what's holding you back?

For me it has been getting my first loan. I have never brought a home and im renting my first place at the age of 32. Mainly because I travel for work and live out of my suitecase and hotels. I have learned a lot from this first rental that would make me look for when looking for my first property.

With my work situation,I work in experiental marketing as a indipendent contractor for years. I have worked with a company for a year or 2 on different projects and when they are done, I move onto the next project that may be with a new company. I seen that it is easier to get a loan with a stable job but with my job its not the easiest. I had one person trying to help me get a loan but they wanted info that I didnt have and it was hard for them to understand my job and how it works. I was trying to get pre approved since its easier to make an offer if you are.

Now I heard there are other ways of getting loans but I only know the traditional one. Anyone can elaberate on where else I can get help from or if someone can help me explain to ppl how I make money.
