I've talked to a # of physicians from Canada and elsewhere in the last couple of days who now live here because they couldn't stand practicing in a gov't controlled healthcare environment . They are as discouraged as me and agree that the vast majority of people don't have a clue what they're in for in healthcare delivery after ObamaCare takes full effect. Unfortunately most of you will get what you ask for.

Some facts to ponder from Monday's IBD:
"In March, the Congressional Budget Office said the law would cost $1.76 trillion from 2013 to 2022, nearly double the $900 billion Obama quoted in September 2009. That's only a partial picture. Beginning in 2014, the next 10 years of ObamaCaere - through 2023- will cost more than $2 trillion. ...
As we reported in April, the CBO estimates that as many as 20 million Americans will be foreced out of their plans as employers toss workers into government health exchanges to avoid ObamaCare's costs.
A survey by McKinsey and Co. found that nearly one-third of employers will likely drop coverage for their workers once ObamaCare kicks in..
An analysis by the Medicare actaury found that ObamaCare's attacks on Medicare's private insurance options will force nearly 8 million senoirs out of the coverage they've chosen."
There's much more but I got tired of typing.

Wow! Bill GulleyGet some real info before you opine. Don't make up fantasy #'s on somebody's income. It only shows your obvious bias. I refer you tohttp://www.medscape.com/features/slideshow/compensation/2012/public?src=google&ef_id=4OtPgcosNHAAAIwT0812:s
to get informed on the subject.
Regarding laws to protect us from dangerous behavior (driving 140 mph) that's a far cry from the gov't takeover of 1/6 of the economy.

Carole M.Where are they going to get those "new doctors"? As stated in a previous post there already is a shortage of primary care Drs. and when Obamacare gets fully implemented with the suppression of Drs. ability to make decisions about patient care because of government panel oversight the independent minded people who go into medicine will not do so because they don't want to spend their youth in school and residency, come out with $200,000+ in debt and then be told how to do their job by the gov't. That's why the shortage of Drs. will get worse and access to care will be limited. Those few in private practice will not accept people who have the gov't (you and me) paying for them.

@jscott The AMA has only a small and dwindling # of Drs. as members and is dismissed by most practicing Drs. as it doesn't represent their views.

Timothy RogersWhen I go into the hospital at 2 am to do an emergency angioplasty to save someone's life when they're haing a heart attack I never have and never will ask if they can pay. Drs. give a tremendous amount of charity care, always have and always will. The media distorts people's perception of doctors to suit their own means.

Bill GulleyYou just don't get it. There will be very little private care in 10yrs. The gov't will run the insurance co. out of business. Moreover, there will be a severe shortage of Drs. There already is a shortage of primary care Drs. and no one will go into medicine, rack up $200,000+ in debt to get through school and then get a gov't job. The good Drs. have an independent mind and the best and brightest will no longer go into medicine. To think otherwise you don't understand human nature.

Brandy Y.You forgot one of the most telling polls : Investor's Business Daily 9/24/09 found 65% of physicians oppose Obamacare. As a physician I and others see the profound negative impact this will have on the delivery of healthcare in this country. I have seen gov't run healthcare at the VA. I have a tremendous number of patients that get their drugs from the VA, because it's free, but, come to me for actual healthcare because they see the lousy care given in a gov't facility. Most people on this thread are clueless as to what will happen to them in 10 yrs. after this takes hold . The costs will be contained by the denial of care by making people wait for care and they'll either get better on their own or die. It's cheap to die, but, expensive to try to live. Access to care will be severely curtailed and that's how the costs will be controlled by the gov't.

I just did a same day angioplasty on a patient that came in this am and wanted it done today. He had a 95 % narrowing in a vessel that I put 2 stents into and now it's 0% and he'll go home tommorrow. That will not happen in 10-15 yrs under Obamacare. He will have to take a number and he'll get it 4-6 months later as happens in Great Britian and Canada. There will be 2 systems of health care here, the gov't one and a private one that only the rich can access because they will pay cash. You'd beter make sure you have plenty of money in the future so your family can get good private pay medical care.

As a physician I'n glad I'm of an age that I can get out in a few years and have real estate income. This is an unmitigated disaster for our country. Socialization of the medical system is the first step that Lenin did when he took over because he understood it needed to be socialized first and then the rest would follow. You're fooling yourself if you think it will be otherwise here. I have worked in a government controlled medical system (the V.A. ) as have a lot of physicians in their training and have seen the lousy care delivered there. We're headed for a terrible outcome in medical delivery and the ruination of the best medical system in the world. Sorry to be a downer ,but, this is real and I'm glad I won't be a part of it.
