I went from growing up in a hut in Vietnam and spending my early years in Section 8 housing in the U.S. to now owning four cash-flowing properties (8 units) across three states. These properties cover my mortgage, allow me to save for maintenance/repairs, and are projected to be worth $7–9 million by retirement. It wasn’t an easy path—in 2014, I even filed for bankruptcy while trying to launch a business. But today, my husband and I live comfortably, and we’ve traveled to 20 countries over the past few years.

I’ve been listening to BiggerPockets since 2013 and was even featured on the Rookie podcast. Real estate helped me reach my simple goal: create cash flow for today and secure a comfortable retirement for later. Now, I’m thrilled to join this community, learn from others, and connect with those just beginning their real estate journeys or reaching new milestones.

Hi Jose, that is how I started too! I have only 4 properties now but there are 8 rental units. They were originally single family homes. With house hacking, I feel like you only need a few properties to be able to build cash flow and set yourself up for retirement. My goals are simple. What about you? What's your end goal?

Hi @Steve Kania, what an exciting time! What type of investments are you looking to do? I went the owner occupied route on my first 3 homes. Eventually I went to investment property (local purchase) and vacation home (2 out of state purchases). The vacation homes offered a low 10% down so that was helpful. Welcome!
