Currently house hacking with my family living in the main area of a SFH, and a tenant living in a full basement apartment. Today, the sump pump was clogged as a result of her putting wipes, paper towels, feminine products, etc. down the toilet. The bill was about half of her monthly rent payment and am wondering if this is the tenants responsibility, mine, or should be split. My lease states that tenant is not responsible for normal wear and tear, but says I can bill for damages if not covered by tenant. Nothing specifically states clogged drains or the like. Wondering if I am able to bill for the repair, or if I can take it from the security deposit. Would prefer to bill directly as to not "run a tab" on the deposit.
