@Nicky Reader

Totally understandable if you’re not ready to move or sell it. This property had a sale sign out front and that’s what confused me.

@Karl B.

That makes a lot of sense. This property is in a rapidly gentrifying part of town so if they previously tried to sell they could have gotten bombarded. Or they could have been bombarded because they are in a physically distressed home in the area.

@Mike M.

I agree. It should be unemotional. The property I was looking at is severely distressed and had people living. I’m assuming they are the owners because no one should have to pay rent in a place like that. Either way I’m just going to leave them be because I know it’s likely a losing game.

@Mary Mitchell

I normally would ignore a comment that makes the assumption you have about my entitlement. I have no entitlement to that property because I am fully aware that it’s not mine. I was merely asking to hopefully gain insight into a situation that I don’t understand. The owner is fully entitled to do whatever they want to their property as long as the appropriate governing bodies say it’s okay. I didn’t even take down the address because I knew they wouldn’t want to work with me. I fully plan to leave them be. Just wanted more info. In the future. I hope you’ll be able to approach people’s questions with a more open mind and fewer assumptions.

@Steve K.

That’s likely part of it too. They also passed an ordinance in that area that means you can’t split a lot into smaller sections for townhomes or commercial use. Won’t the property taxes go us as the value of the land goes up eventually forcing them out if they can’t pay the taxes?

@Theresa Harris

Wow. I almost don’t have words. I don’t understand how someone could think like that. Then again, not everyone thinks the same way. Thanks for that. I hadn’t considered that at all.

Thanks for offering another angle. I had considered stubbornness and misguided advice as a possibility too. The property is in a part of town where the distressed homes are selling for $300k-$500k, getting torn down and having homes with sales prices 3 and 4 times that being built. I think the owner might expect a million dollar offer on a property currently worth WAY less than that.

I was put driving for dollars today and I came across a for sale sign that said “ no real estate investors.” Other than selling the home below market value, why would someone not consider selling to a real estate investor?

@Alina Trigub Thanks. I’ve been angry quite a few in my inbox and the more I think about it the more open I become to a virtual relationship with a CPA.

@Ronan Donnelly Thanks. I guess I’m kind of already on the right track.
