@Michael Lembo, welcome to BP! Good to see another newbie in Syracuse!

I've gone to the Onondaga County REIA meeting, honestly I found the leader to be very condescending and discouraging. However everyone else there was very nice and helpful. So it is a good place to network, but make sure you go early because the networking portion is before the meeting. The first meeting is free to go to and you can pay for each subsequent meeting a la carte. Hope this helps!

@Dmitriy Fomichenko, thank you! Glad to be here :)

Hi @Will Chamberlin, thanks for the insight. I am actually partnering with a co-worker of mine to do a house hack for him as our first deal. Unfortunately I already have a family and house, so I am unable to do a house hack as easily for myself.

We have already decided to avoid the core of the city and focus on areas around the city (Fairmount, Solvay, Liverpool, East Syracuse, North Syracuse, ect...). Right now we aren't too interested in student rentals due to the high turn over and potential damage to the units. Maybe when I get a little more experience I will reconsider investing in student rentals.

Luckily as part of my job, I do site visits around the Syracuse area. Lately I have been using these as opportunities to get to know the area better and find potential deals. Win win!

Thanks for offering your help, I'll PM you if I have more detailed questions. Definitely looking forward to meeting up with you and other Syracuse BPers! Seems like a great group of people!

Hi @Will Chamberlin, thank you! It would be great to get together to chat. I have lived in the Syracuse area my whole life, but I feel like I dont know it the best places to invest (or more accurately the places to avoid). So i would definitely appreciate advise from someone who has done deals in the area!

Hi @Dave Visaya, thank you! I see your an audio engineer. I used to be a supervisor at my college's tech crew. It was probably the best job I have had and lot of fun!

Hi @Brian Barfoot, thanks! I think there are good opportunities in Syracuse also. I have been mainly looking around the core of Syracuse in the areas of Fairmount, Solvay, Liverpool, East Syracuse, North Syracuse. It would be great to meet up for lunch and talk real estate sometime if your interested

Hi Everyone,

My name is David Zuber, I am from Syracuse NY. Similar to a lot of people, I got interested in real estate because I read Rich Dad Poor Dad. In January I was speaking with a co-worker who already invests in real estate and asked if he knew any books that would help me to learn more. He suggested I start with the Ultimate Beginners Guide from BiggerPockets, which lead me here!

Since then I have been educating myself by reading books on real estate investing, reading forum posts, and listening to the BiggerPockets podcast.

I am currently working with a local real estate agent and have been begun to start analyzing deals on the MLS. I am interested in the buy and hold strategy with multifamily properties in the Syracuse area and I am targeting buying my first property by the end of 2017.

Normally I don't participate in forums online, but I decided that it was time to get involved with the community. I am also attending my first local REIA meeting tonight!

Anyway I just wanted to stop and introduce myself to the community! I look forward to speaking with other like-minded people!

Thanks,

David
