BP Asheville,

My wife and I are considering moving to Asheville, NC this Fall. We are ideally looking to house hack a duplex, and don't mind having up to a 30 min drive into town so we're checking out Black Mountain/Hendersonville/Weaverville, etc. as well.

Any recommendations on agents, lenders, insurance are welcomed, as well as any anecdotes about the market. Done a fair amount of research already, but will take all of the information I can get.

Thanks!

David

Chattanooga is in the midst of a decades-long restoration, lead by the City itself. Easy access to bigger markets like Nashville, Atlanta, Charlotte, etc. without the big city headaches. You can be on the slopes or on the beach in a half-days drive. Tennessee as a whole is a logistics hub (ex. FedEx in Memphis) due to it's location and infrastructure, which should continue to create value for the state long-term.

@Carmela Hunt Would you mind providing some more details on your investment (i.e. how did you find it, finance it, does it cash flow)? I am anticipating a possible move to CHI later this year and want to do the same thing, been looking at Logan Square and some other surrounding neighborhoods. Any experience and/or tips you may have would be greatly appreciated!

BP Community,

With tax season here, what are some of the changes to the tax code that are affecting you? Which ones are most significant to real estate investors?

Note: I am an accountant, but do not do tax work as of now.

@Andrew Postell I posted a question in another forum and I think you answered, but the thread was taken down. What is the living requirement for an FHA loan? 1 yr, 5 yrs, in perpetuity?

Thanks again!

@Andrew Postell Yes, it's something I'm definitely considering in the near term. I've been researching house hacking and more specifically 203k rehab loans along with other DAP options. Going with the live-in option might be a good way for me to get started, and then later on down the road using an LLC to invest on a larger scale.
