Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

A friend of ours is helping resettle his cousins who are Afghani refugees in the Akron area. When I looked at the cost of housing there, I became very interested to purchase in the area,  seeing as several properties were in the 80k-150k range. Anyone had experience owning and renting properties there? Best established management companies?

Thanks

Have tons of Akron properties. This pricing is what you'll see all over Ohio really. If you are getting a single home in the $150k range it's probably a pretty decent area with a mix of owner occupants and tenants. There are actually a lot of houses in Akron that are even less than $80k, but those are pretty hood.

Thanks James! I'll take a look in person if the families are still serious about moving. Cheers!

Thanks Nathan. Good words. I'm still speaking with our Afghani friends to solidify their interests. If they're wanting to move forward, I'll drive up there to assess in person before moving forward.

Just be careful. A lot of properties look very attractive on paper but don't pencil out well in reality. The properties are cheap and rent well, but what is the quality of renter? What are the maintenance costs? I've seen a lot of people walk into "easy" markets in the mid-west only to discover the properties are harder to maintain, tenants are of low quality, they can't find a good property manager, etc.
