Thanks @Jared Baumer and @Jacob Repreza for the tips and updates on the meetups. I'll try to get myself over to one as soon as I can!

Hey BP community! I have been listening to BP podcasts and read Brandon's books for 6 months, and I'm finally jumping into the website and forums to make more connections and gain more advice. I'm currently renting in Orange County, so my goals are to 1) look for a permanent residence to purchase and 2) start with 1-2 rental investments as additional assets to supplement my income. I work as a research scientist in a biotech startup, and while I have no intention to replace my job, I do want to supplement my income in such a high cost-of-living area.

My current interests in real estate are buy-and-hold long term properties, as well as any short term rentals and flips. Rather than looking into out-of-state, I want to continue searching for deals in neighboring cities within California, but outside of OC/LA. As I gain more experience, I anticipate that I'll be looking more and more into out-of-state opportunities.

Right now, my focus is to learn and soak up information about REI from all of you here, and to get connected to like-minded investors . I'm a huge spreadsheet, analytics geek, so I'm sure I'm in the right place. Let's connect!
