@Dennis Bragg most likely slow at first, with a long term goal of growing the portfolio over the next 5-7 years.

Preferably long term rentals. But flips do intrigue me, I just don't know much about them or what to look for.

Hi Everyone,

First time poster, long time lurker!  I live in a Charlotte, NC suburb and I'm looking to begin my real estate investing journey.  I would like to invest in a small duplex/ tri-plex in NC to get started.  I have some cash for a down payment, excellent credit, a well paying job and plenty of equity in my current residence.  I am also the sole provider of a family of five, which has really prevented me from jumping in the real estate game.  I've been watching from the sidelines for years and it's time to get over the fear of failure.

So, that leads me to a couple of questions for the group:

1. I've been using Zillow and Realtor.com to look for duplexes.  Are those the best places to find deals on duplexes?  If not, where should I be looking?

2. Are there any local investment groups in the Charlotte, NC area?  Anyone willing to help/ mentor a new investor?  I don't know what I don't know!

3. For the agents on this forum, do income producing duplexes in the Charlotte suburbs (Gastonia, Concord, Salisbury, etc.) exist for under $300K?

Any additional insight/ ideas the group can provide are welcome.  I've already learned a great deal from this website.  I look forward to learning more.
