I recently replaced 2 ceiling fans paying $50-60/each for labor, and garbage disposal for $80, in Austin TX. That was part of remodeling, so I paid may be 20% less than my handyman usually charges. I also tried to buy more durable inexpensive 52-inch Hampton Bay ceiling fans for like $80, and 1/2 HP Everbilt garbage disposal for $60 on sale.

My handyman also showed me how to connect wires, connect to the switch, so next time it will be easy for me to replace them. I'd expect ceiling fans and disposal to last at least 5 years. If apartment is occupied, and I have to fix something I'm not familiar with, I'd call handyman. I have great relationships with him, referring other clients, and he always shows me how to do it right way, and I already did multiple things by myself - making window screens, painting of 8 interior doors in 2 days, hardware for kitchen cabinets, replacing bathroom faucets etc. My next project this month - blowing in insulation for duplex attic where I live
