Hi Ronan, I am also in the Boston area.  I get invites to events periodically and have yet to make time to attend, but am now shifting my business focus and much more motivated to do so.  I will try to give you a heads up for the next one.

 Great answer from Ryan.  The only thing I would add is to highlight this ^^.  Someone needs to take responsibility for making sure that the design and execution of the project meets applicable codes in a way that the inspector will sign off on.  If you have any doubts about your knowledge and abilities in this area hire a builder who will pull the permit and make sure that closing the permit comes before the last payment.
