I'm Dilthon A. Ramos and I'm a newbie from L.A. city looking to start investing in real estate. I'm currently employed full time and I have been in the Supply Chain/Logistics business since 2003. I found Bigger Pockets via Google and after lurking around the site for a bit, I realized how awesome of a community this is. My goal is to be able to quit my full time job and retire by 40. Based on my research, real estate investing, if done properly, can definitely help me achieve that as well as all the resources that BP has to offer.
My initial interest in real estate sparked years ago when I was about 19-20. I watched a real estate investing infomercial at like 1 am and I actually purchased the set. I can't remember right now which infomercial/investor it was but when I find it, I'll update. Anyway, I received the package and it contained a few books, but mostly audio CD's. Now, at 19-20, my attention span for business wasn't all there. I was also a full time student and worked part time at LAX. I did try to listen to the audio CD's and read the books with my best friend. He and I were going to partner up and start investing in real estate and make it rich! Or so we thought. That motivation was pretty much gone after about a week; mostly because we did not understand the business and some of the terms used. Promissory note? Deed of trust? As time passed, the books and CD's collected dust and were eventually stored and we both went on about our lives.
Fast forward to 2013. My big sister gave me "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" for my 28th birthday. She's been a real estate investor for a while - since I was a young boy - and motivated me to read that book! Well I did. It didn't "change my life" but it did change my thought process about a lot of things, especially in the finance department. That book motivated me to read more real estate related books which eventually brought me here.
I am now in the process of acquiring my first multi family property within L.A. for buy and hold and I hope to move forward with real estate to see what else I can learn and share.
