Welcome Rebecca McLagan ! I, too, am in Green Bay. As for myself, I have not made a purchase yet. Just trying to educate myself as much as possible before taking the plunge. Carrie Reyment , where is the summer party going to be located and what time. I'll try and make it

@Account Closed

This is a subject I am struggling with as well. I personally have not started yet (as per my wife's request. I think she's waiting for me to move onto the next shiny thing).

I appreciate your openness. Does having a daily routine also help? How about meeting regularly with like minded people?

Hello fellow BP'ers,

I am taking a year to prepare and study (a request from my wife) before entering into the REI world. My question: how do you stay motivated to continue fighting the fight to keep investing, flippling, selling, etc. Real estate?

What does your everyday look like?

Do you surround yourself with fellow investors to stay focused? If so, how important is meeting up with these like minded people? How often do communicate and how often is it done?

Does having an everyday routine keep you focused? What does that look like?

If there are any other questions I didn't ask, please add to the list.

Thanks so much guys. You have been a huge help so far.

I know this post is a year old, but I feel like I'm in the same shoes you were a year ago. I'm very excited to start this investing thing, but I need to pay off some debt first. Also, the wife is saying, if I'm really serious about this investing thing, waiting a year to pay off debt shouldn't make a difference. I see her point. Hopefully your year of networking paid off. Have you made your first purchase yet?

To be honest, I can't remember which site I read it. I wish I could. But, I agree with you guys, after having cruised the site for a while, that this is not a guru site.

@Ray Johnson

From what I've seen of the information on BP, I agree that it does not seem guru-ish. The reason I threw this pole up is because I just want to be cautious of what I'm getting into. RE seems like such an amazing vehicle that can be used to make the life a person desires. A life of living off of passive income (if that's your desire) or many of the other options available. Sometimes looking at the possibilities seem almost too good to be true. Granted, I know there is a  huge learning curve, but, by large, I wonder why more people aren't RE investing for a living.

The opinion has been floating around the internet that BiggerPockets is just another guru website. What are your thoughts and opinions?

@Matthew Schnecke

Check out the webinars, tools, etc. I, myself am new too but this place has amazing amounts of information. Good luck. I think anyone can make this RE thing work if they really want to

@Kevin S.

Good point about the FHA. I'll try and remember that for the future.

@Ben Ertl

As far as knowing how much renovations are going to cost, I'd recommend getting "The Book On Flipping Houses" and the estimating cost book that goes with it by J. Scott. I just finished the flipping book and just started the rehab one. I'd recommend them both

That's  something I might be interested in doing too. I'm also in Green Bay and have yet to do my first deal. Just trying to study all I can before taking the plunge =)
