Has anyone ever dealt with converting a house from oil to gas heat? Where can I find estimates on the cost?

Thanks for all the replies. I don't log in often. Too busy working and trying to find that next deal. As for the termite problem - it was really bad in the floor in the addition to the house. I had the floor replaced and the guy put down a plastic barrier and used some "heavy duty" spray from Home Depot. I'll have to find out exactly what was used, and what more needs to be done when I visit the property again. It's out of state. Since I am considering section 8 certification, I may need to call the exterminator again. Thanks for that info.

I know this sounds crazy, but I've been told that diesel fuel will get rid of termites. I'm sure there are environmental issues with this, but I would be terrified of a fire - even years after the treatment. If the insurance company found out that diesel fuel was used, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't pay. Has anyone ever heard of this?

I know you have to sign a thousand (okay, thirty) documents when you close using a lender. What is the process when you're paying cash?

Has anyone ever seen the results of a title search? I think this is called the title abstract.

For the property I'm talking about, which is in SC, a man willed his house to his sisters. His wife, whom he was separated from for years, but never divorced, is contesting the will. Her name is not on the deed in SC and she never lived there. She got their house in another state. She seems to be the type of person who will tie this up in court as long as possible.

Post: Do Banks/Lenders Acquire Homes in Groups?

Why would a bank acquire a property for $80,000 one month, and list it with a realtor for 38,000 the next month. Could this property just be a part of a group, and the bank is going to take the loss on this one? I'm speaking of Countrywide. The Bank of NY is the trustee. I've researched the property on-line and neither was listed as a prior lender.

This all new to me, so any information is helpful. I've already read the entire REO section on this forum.

Thanks Ryan. I'm so glad I found this forum. I actually get answers to my questions here.

I'm posting my next question in the REO section. So take a look at it.

Hi,

I'm new to the forum. This is great information!

If a property just went through probate, is it still necessary to have a title search done and buy title insurance? I plan to do these things, but I just wanted to hear what others think about this.

Thanks for the quick reply. The property is in SC. They are paying for the title insurance.
