Post: Limited Partnerships - Exit of one partner

Hi @Taylor L,

All good questions posed. I think we would have to have an appraisal done to determine fair market value in the event of a buyout. If we could not agree on a price then we would have to sell the assets. One thing we discussed was putting a term on the partnership so we could re-evaluate the agreement after a period of time or after a certain number of doors are purchased. This is all simple in design but can be complicated the deeper you go. Have you had LP partnerships before?

I just started an LP with my partner. Him and I will be investing in buy-and-hold single and small multifamily real estate through and LP with a General Partner. Does anyone have any advise on how to cover-off  'if one person wants to exit the partnership or "cash-out" of the partnership'?

Thanks for your help.

Other than oblivious items like appreciation, medium house price, vacancy rates, expected population growth, etc...

What are other things you look for, compare and analyze when looking at new markets and states to invest into??

Hi @Charles Carillo & @Basit Siddiqi,

Thanks for getting back to my post. From what I can tell right now, having a limited partnership, which can be owned by a Canadian Corp, set up in the state is one way of avoiding this double tax. We are just making a list of questions before we approach a Tax accountant and CPA.

Charles, thank you for offer of introduction. I will get back to you shortly.

I will check out the podcast.

Cheers

Hi,

I'm looking to invest out of country into the US market. I currently reside in Alberta. I'm not sure where to start when it comes to structure and tax planning. Does anyone have any advice on this and how to avoid extra and double tax?
