Hey Justis. I live in Omaha and am looking to start investing at some point in the near future. Welcome to BP!

Just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Chris Schmid and I am an IT professional (programmer/data analyst) from Omaha, Nebraska.

I first became interested in real estate after my wife and I went through the process of building our own home. Her father is a custom home builder and with his help we were able to get into our first home and save a bunch of money in the process. She has some other close family in real estate (an agent and another home builder) and it seemed like an interesting industry to get involved with. I know accountants, lawyers, and a few renters in the area and, although I'm still new to this, it seemed like I had enough people around me to have a really good support system.

Basically, my goals are to build wealth and become more involved in my community. Right now I'm just trying to soak in as much as I can and I hope that by the middle of this year I'll be ready to start looking for my first rental property. I'm thinking that I'm going to want to buy and hold multi-family residences, but I'm still trying to figure out what will work best for me.
