I have a potential tenant who is requesting to pay rent by money order rather than through the RentRedi platform.

Their claim is that paying rent by money order will help them in some way when it comes time to purchasing a home in the future. Can someone explain why payment with money order would be better than reporting payments to credit bureaus through RentRedi?

Personally I see money orders as a pain to deal with both for the tenant and for myself by adding unnecessary steps.

@Ed W.I appreciate the insight. Reviewing county evictions records is something I would have never thought of.

@Alfath Ahmed I have heard good things about the current market in Columbus, however, cash-flow through buy and hold is what I am after currently. In the next couple of years I will look at whether the long-term appreciation approach is practical.

@Remington Lyman I am working on reviewing the Columbus lease agreement. It looks like it should suffice for my current situation. Being that I am looking to get acquainted with an attorney I may just bite the bullet and request a thorough review of the BP Columbus lease agreement.

Relocating to Ohio for work and family reasons, Lima specifically due to proximity to work and location of first investment property. I will be looking to expand outward for future investments, likely towards Columbus or Dayton, as @Jimmy Lieu mentioned.

@Nathan Gesner, @Austin McClain Thank you for the feedback. Being that I am new to the game, I thought it would be best to go through an attorney. Should I still meet with an attorney to review? I want to have an attorney on standby for the future. What is the best way to line up an attorney?

Hello,

I am currently in the process of closing on a duplex near Lima, Ohio that I will be house-hacking by living in one of the units for a couple of years. I will be moving to Ohio from New York and this is my first investment property.

I have located an attorney to work with, based out of Columbus, but I am looking for local support within the BP mafia as well.

Is there anyone in relative proximity to Lima that is willing to share a copy of their lease agreement? It would be great going into first discussions with my attorney with a solid basis to work off of.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
