I'm guessing by the lack of replies that is a no. I don't think this is the road for me either. After doing some research it sounds like a pretty solitary job. Not what I am interested in. I want to find a way to make some seed money and be in a real estate field as well. Maybe sales?

I am talking with an licensed appraiser about working for him. It would require the trainee license which is an investment. Anyone else start out learning through being an appraiser?

Thanks guys. All of your responses are helpful. I am willing to put in effort. If I pursue REI I in would transition slowly as my knowledge and connections are built eventually leaving my pt job in a year or so. It could be up to 5 years before my husband would start a career switch so I don't need to cover his income right away. We anticipate him still earning $30-40K.

@Rachel H. What would you pursue for a first time small deal?

My goals are to build a supplemental retirement income for my husband and I (we are a little bit behind) and to build an income producing career for myself so that my husband can pursue an alternative career and leave his $140000 yr job without much of a change in living standards. I am 43 years old with experience in business administration, customer service, merchandising and music. I currently work part time at a national home improvement retailer. I would eventually like to leave this position but still like to have time to pursue a local music career. Are these realistic goals for REI?
