I have found 2 local REIC in the KC area, but I don't have any experience with them. Can anyone share whether REIC are worth paying for a membership? Do they provide a good networking experience or just try to sell you the next guru's product?

Hello all. I'm new to investing. I have (unfortunately) been down the guru path; bought the books, went to the seminars, even paid for a mentorship that amounted to nothing but a hole in my wallet. I have put together my first deal and am just waiting for the advertising to work for me on it. I have been in the corporate world for 10+ years, but have always wanted to be my own boss. The biggest problem I have with diving in feet first is that I am sole provider in my family of 5 and I'm at the upper end of salary for my position; so I'm understandably nervous. I plan to build my business part time for now and hopefully within a few months have enough cashflow/confidence that I can quit my day job and work full time for myself. The biggest draw to real estate for me (beside the obvious financial freedom) is the philanthropic aspect of the business. I have been in bad situations and had people give me a hand up in the past. I look forward to being in the position to offer a hand up to others. My day job is System Engineer/Administrator and I'm very knowledgeable in IT matters, I also am currently in an mba program. I understand the basics of business and hope to get better as time progresses. I look forward to working with as many people as I can to grow both my knowledge and network.
