@Ned Carey did you see this in Baltimore?  I recently read about this in my Flipping Houses for Dummies book.  Wow.

Hi Barrington-

I met the investor I bird dog for at a home auction.  He also mentors me.  Hope that helps. Just google house auctions in your city and show up to one.  You will see a ton of investors there.  Approach one.

Hey BP.  I would love to hear from anyone who is a successful investor and started out bird dogging.  That's the position I'm in now and I would love to have some additional motivation!  Please share the good, the bad, and the ugly.  Thanks.

Steve-

That is very helpful feedback.  That makes a lot of sense.  He will likely expect more than just her raising her hand to bid at an auction.

David-

She is only part time so if REI works out in our favor, it will be the better source of income. His mentorship is going to include paying me 20% for bird dogging so we will use that to fund real estate investments.

David-

My wife would leave her job as a college professor to do this full time because we recognize that REI is probably the better choice long term. The investor told us we would want to eventually quit our jobs as this business is lucrative. One of us needs to take the risk and put ourselves out there and we agreed it's better for her to do that.

Thanks for your response, J.  Interestingly enough, I did not think that bidding at auctions took much, but the investor informed us that the work is very challenging?  Not exactly sure why, but I suppose my wife will find out as she is supposed to start in early August to see if it's a fit.

Thanks for your response, Justin.  That does make sense to me that being mentored would be worth a ton of money.  I definitely value that.  I already do bird dogging for him. I assess about 20-25 properties a week. Our plan is actually to have my wife do the bidding on his behalf as I have a full time job right now.  My wife also works as a college professor.  I don't really have the option to get paid nothing as we need to keep up with our monthly bills and such so I'll wait and see what this investor proposes and go from there.  He did already say he would pay my wife to do this work, I'm just not sure what would be fair.  I'm assuming it would be ludicrous to ask him to match what she makes currently?
