I'm curious about people's opinions when investing in Southern vs Northern/Midwest US. I have only lived in Southern states and want to learn some of the key differences in regards to operating expenses. I've been a SFR tenant in several areas of Florida, and in all cases, lawn care and HOA is provided by landlord while all utilities are handled by tenant. As a landlord, these expectations seem to carry over. Is this usually the case in other areas of the country, or does it vary? Are furnace maintenance costs high? Are maintenance costs higher in general due to snow and ice? What Is snow? Some of the Midwest deals I'm seeing look very appealing compared to prices around my area. I'm just wondering what I should look out for that I might not anticipate.

Hi! Just thought I would peek in. This is my first post on BP and the first time I have joined a social network. I'm not anti-social but social networks are just a bit creepy to me, just me I guess. My friends do not share in my newfound interest in RE, so I'm hoping to meet some folks on BP here in the space coast area. My knowledge in the subject is minimal, still absorbing. I got my feet wet a few months ago with a SFR purchase and I'm currently looking for another, hoping to be a bit more involved with rehab for the next one.
