Last summer I had a sump related flood in a property in southern Ontario. It was remediated by professionals who originally thought they would be completing the re-installation of the drywall they cut out in a 1700 square foot raised bungalow basement, 2 feet high along the entire perimeter and interior walls for a laundry, 2 bedrooms,4 closets, a washroom, family room, and mechanical area. Given my construction background, I cut a deal with the insurance company: $6400 for the drywall and flooring, the later being a dated and inexpensive carpet of no value and therefore assigned no real replacement value. Essentially the Insurance company was paying out $8.53/sq for drywall and paint, they paid out the restoration firm for the remediation, demo and removal work, so the total claim was much higher. Insuance companies are not known to play wild and lose with their money. Now back to the real, or at least more consistent world: drywall costs vary as to the unique nature of each job location, therefore comparing estimates without details is an exercise in futility.
