Hello,

I am in Chicago, IL and I purchased a 2-unit building with a conforming basement unit. The unit in the basement meets all local ordinances and I am looking to have the property re-zoned to a legal 3-unit.

Does anyone have experience going through this process?

I ended up renting to the undocumented tenants and they have been great. They have paid rent on time and in cash every month and they have kept their apartment very clean and well kept. The glowing review from their previous landlord was the ultimate decider of my decision.

@Diana Serrano did you end up renting to the undocumented family? I am in a similar situation and debating whether or not to give them a lease. The potential tenants seem like clean cut people, hard working and well mannered as well. - Thanks,

Hello, I have had a large family apply to rent a 3 bedroom 1 bath apartment that I own. There are 6 adults total and 3 of them do not have a ssn. Have any of you had experience renting to undocumented immigrants? How did you go about doing background checks? Are there things I should be concerned about?

Hello,

I have a rental in Chicago that is 1400sq/ft, 3 bedroom and 1 bathroom. I have had a family of 7 (6 adults and 1 child) submit an application. To me, it seems as if they would be uncomfortable living in such small quarters. I am concerned about the amount of wear-and-tear that this many people will cause this newly remodeled unit.

I would love your thoughts / advice. On a positive note... they will forsure meet the minimum income requirement with 6 working adults.
