Hi Wayne,

I am interested in the Portland market and though your original post is from five years ago, I'm curious to know if you were able to connect with some Portland area investors, agents, etc. and what your experience has been

I have a question on this same subject - if I'm going to house hack a 3-bedroom house (ie by living in one of the bedrooms and renting the other two out), what, if any, depreciation would I be able to claim?

Hello,

I recently relocated to Denver and began a full-time job as an engineer.  I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for REIAs to check out.  Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!  I look forward to meeting some of you in the very near future.

Kindest Regards,

Carson

What are your thoughts on flipping properties in Atlantic City as opposed to purchasing rentals?

@Carlos Rodrigues While I am myself very new to this game, I have read a few books that have opened my eyes tremendously.  I learned a lot from @Brandon Turner 's books: The Book on Investing in Real Estate with No and Low Money Down and The Book on Rental Property Investing.  You can also take a look at this link: https://www.biggerpockets.com/renewsblog/2015/11/1... Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Furthermore, at the end of every BP podcast, each guest is asked about their favorite real estate related book.  You can get some great suggestions there.  Anyone have any additional suggestions?

Hi Carlos,

Welcome to BP!  I was recently in a similar boat, I know choosing a firm to work at can be stressful.  I finally got my real estate license on Tuesday.

Are you more interested in investing or working as an agent? A few good friends and mentors of mine, as well as several REI books recommended that I choose a broker that is also an avid real estate investor. Hope this helps you out, and good luck on the state exam!

Thank you for the welcome, Jason.  My goal is to purchase a multi-family in central NJ and rent it out soon after I graduate in May 2017.  What areas of real estate do you look into?

Hi everyone my name is Carson Hess and I am a current engineering student looking to purchase a rental property in the central New Jersey area within the next year.  My mother was licensed as a salesperson in New Jersey for roughly five years, and licensed as a broker salesperson for one until my family moved out of state.  Having heard about the real estate business from my mother definitely sparked interest in real estate, however I did not seriously consider the investment side of the business until reading Robert Kiyosaki's classic Rich Dad Poor Dad.  Since reading that book, I have spent the last year reading about finance, investing, and real estate, which led me to listening to BiggerPockets podcasts.

Currently I work several part time jobs, am a volunteer engineering researcher at Rutgers University, and am a few weeks away from obtaining a real estate license.  Outside of that, my main interests are health, reading, and traveling.

I am looking forward to learning from and with you all on our journeys toward financial freedom.  Thank you.
