I would think that this is usually done by institutions and it would be hard to break in unless you were with an established firm.

I am a mortgage broker. I am starting to get into REO's and foreclosures.

If you buy a property at a trustee sale during foreclosure there is no inspection and property is sold as is. You can do a drive by but can't look inside to inspect. So yes, properties are bought with limited inspection all the time.
