I'm trying to protect the home I live in and retirement accounts.  I'm trying to learn the best way to separate the rental liabilities from my personal assets.

Thanks for the suggestion as I'll be looking more into insurance.

I want to start out with a single family home to rent out but no one wants to loan to an LLC that has no assets or cash flow. I could get a 2nd loan quite easily but I'm not willing to risk personal lawsuits. While I can come up with a 20% down payment, how do I get around this issue?
