I grew up in the area but have no desire to invest there. That does not mean that it is a bad idea...just not a market that is for me. I think Champaign-Urbana makes for a better mid term market in the area. It is home to one of the only Level 1 trauma center hospitals (Carle) in the state outside of Chicago and the state's most prominent university. Champaign County is also one of the very few counties in Illinois with a growing population.

Oh awesome! That's good to know. My numbers for Springfield have been working out so far but just falling flat on finding deals. I'll take a look into Champaign-Urbana and see what's out there. Thanks!

Quote from @Joey Banasihan:

Hey @Brian Lloyd Trieu-Mallari! I am not in that area, but when I have been interested or wanting to talk to folks, I message them on Furnish Finder/AirBnB. I would be particular on which property you reach out to, look at ones that are professionally photographed, have good reviews, and are similar to the property you would want to invest with. Then from there you should reach out to them, see if they have investor friendly agent, and if you find a good agent, you should be able to get connected to cleaners, maintenance folks, contractors, and more.  Good luck!

Hi Joey, thanks for the advice! I've actually reached out to owners on FF but unfortunately haven't had any replies yet. I haven't looked into AirBnB so I'll do that too. When you message people on listing sites, how do you position yourself? What would be a good message to send that would get them to reply back?

Anyone hosting mid-term rentals in Springfield, IL? I'm working on acquiring property out there and plan to rent it out to travel healthcare workers. Would love to connect and get some advice, as well as help build out my team!

@David Worker Good to know! What is your carpentry/handyman company? I will definitely need one once things get going for me. Sounds like you are local to Springfield?

Hi everyone. I'm looking into getting my first investment property and considering buying a home in Springfield, IL and turning it into a MTR. The reason for this is because Springfield looks to be a low-cost entry point. It also has good demand for travel clinicians/nurses, and on Furnished Finder the data suggests that there is good demand but very little housing available to them. Seems like an opportunity to fill the gap in a cheaper market. My concern, however, is that I'm in California and don't have any personal connections in Springfield. I worry that because I don't have a network in Springfield and am brand new to REI, I may have a tough time.

My question is: is Springfield, IL a viable market to create MTRs? Should I consider pivoting to a different market where I have connections?

Thank you!
