@Brian Fouts thank you for the great advice. I would much rather have my money work for me! It is such a simple and power concept, that a lot of people do not understand. Unfortunately as I become more financial literate, getting my Masters in Construction Project Management does not make as much sense. I will still be working long hard hours for money.

I have been locked in the idea of either starting with a duplex or triple decker, and start my portfolio from there. I am still young, but @Stephen Beaudoin you are 100% right I need to stop waiting for the right moment, and start making moves. Question what do you mean by house hacking?

I have been kicking myself for not using this tool enough, I have been reluctant because I still have not come close to investing in my first real estate property. But I have been seeing all the feedback from the all the awesome BP members, and it has allowed me to open up.

I am 24 years old working as a salary job as an MEP coordinator for a general contractor building larger scale construction projects. I also had the opportunity to go to grad school and currently seeking a degree in construction project management. Before reading Rich Dad Poor Dad, I thought that saving money from my weekly paycheck would make me rich some day, but with the interest rate below 1% I was getting discouraged about the rate that I was getting back from the bank. I knew investing in the stock market would get me a better return but I don't like the risk factor. I do have a 401-k with my company, and I did set up a Roth IRA, but this is long term money.

I became interested in real estate investing because of my current boss. He showed me his three decker that he owns and lives in out in Webster. He went over how he collects money from his tenants and uses it to pay off his mortgage, the rest was cash flow to his wallet. This struck me as a great idea, and for the past couple months I have been listening to bigger pocket podcasts and reading into real estate investing, with the goal of one day becoming a real estate investor.

My big question moving forward is when am I going to make the step? I have not made any moves, because I do not feel like right now is the right time. But when is the right time? Right now I am living at home (not paying rent), working full time, and going to grad school. Living at home currently helps me save more than 1/4 of my paycheck, but there is never enough money to have saved up when preparing to invest right? I want to over prepare myself for when the time comes, but maybe this is just me being safe. As I was brought up by safe parents who are stuck in the rat race.

So now moving forward I want to get into real estate by becoming a real estate agent. I already have multiple brokers reach out to me, so I thought this would be something good to do in the side to help myself pursue my goal of being a real estate investor, and make a little extra cash on the side.

Thank you BP members for reading this post, this is me opening up to the community. Feel free to add your comments, or ideas. It would be greatly appreciated.

I obviously still have a lot to learn, as I did not know those facts that you listed, which are very helpful. I still have a couple years before I begin investing, so I thought that being a real estate agent would be a good way for me to make extra money on the side, and learn more about real estate. My goal in the future is to buy and hold a three decker or two family and use the capital from my current job and tenants rent money to invest in more properties. I still have a lot to learn and plan on using my time valuably in getting more educated, and meeting more people like yourself.

@Charlie MacPherson thank you again.

Thank you @Bernard Chouinard. My commute to work currently is a little over an hour, so I have been using that time to listen to the BP podcasts. I have already learned so much, and look forward to my ride now.

@Charlie MacPherson thank you for your input. I do have a background in Engineering so I am used to taking tests and exams. I am not so much worried about the exam, and I heard the classes that you take before the exam are only to prepare you for the exam. Not necessarily help you to become a real estate agent.

I recently went to Real Estate seminar hosted locally by Keller Williams a big broker out in my area. The team leader went over the basics to becoming a Real Estate agent, and I thought it would a good learning curve for me in my endeavors to becoming a Real Estate investor to become an agent. I am now in the process of signing up for Real Estate classes to get my license, and I was curious if anyone had suggestions for any Real Estate schools around the Worcester County Area. One of my friends from college who has his Real Estate License suggested going to Bay State Academy?

Hey everyone my name is Brett Storro. I am currently employed by a General Contractor out in Worcester Ma, and also currently working for my Masters in Construction Project Management at WPI. I was inspired in Real Estate by my current mentor and boss, who currently owns a three decker and resides in it. I also got significant interest in investing and real estate by reading Rich Dad Poor Dad (Favorite Real Estate Book). I am a driven individual, and currently investing my time and knowledge to learn as much as I can about playing the game of Real Estate. I am also saving up for hopefully a three decker when I graduate Grad School.
