Post: Huge electric bill on property

Hello,

I recently purchased an out of state property that is currently unoccupied while I have been getting some renovations completed. I just received a massive >$800 electric bill. My first thought was that it was maybe the contractors using tools, but after contacting the electric company, it looks like the bill this time last year was several thousand dollars, and it may be related to heating. The house has all electric baseboard heaters.

Just hoping to get any advice for what to do in this situation - does it make sense to replace the baseboard heaters with something else? Any suggestions on what (electric only)?

Thanks a lot David & Melanie! This is very helpful and gives me a solid idea of what to do.

Hi all,

I'm considering a purchase of a property that needs a fairly significant renovation. The property is currently occupied - the current tenants would like to remain on the property and sign a lease. I have concerns that having the place occupied will significantly complicate the renovation. I'm new to this and I'm investing out of state - just wanted to get others perspectives and thoughts on this situation.

Thanks!
Brandon
