Quote from @Shawn Parsh:

Brandon,

Welcome, and congratulations on your decision to get started. I use to serve in a military unit in Birmingham, but that has been about ten years ago. I love to find distressed properties. I think it is a great way to gain quick equity. What you have learned from your dad should be a great advantage. I hope your investing goes well. I know you didn't ask for input so feel free to ignore it, but I would say make sure you do not use skilled labor for unskilled work. From my experience people that have easy access to builders and other contractors they tend to lean on them for all work. Your profits will be higher if you carefully manage what you pay for each required task.

Just out of curiosity why are you waiting six months to start investing?

 Shawn,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, being around the construction industry pretty much most of my life I have learned a lot of the unskilled work.

I’m waiting because I just really started educating myself on the whole RE investing process. I don’t want to jump in too quick and regret it.

Hey all, my name is Brandon McLeod and I’m excited to be part of the BiggerPockets community. I am a licensed real estate agent in Alabama and I’m interested in fix and flips in the Birmingham, AL and surrounding areas. I’ve always been interested in real estate investing. My Dad has been a custom home builder in our area for 40+ years so I have a great start as far as the contracting/rehab pricing goes. I will be looking at purchasing our first investment property within 6 months or so. I am excited to be here and looking forward to learning as much as I can.
