@Marcus Auerbach- Thanks again for your input and for sharing a little more of your story.  I certainly can see where you are coming from and do not disagree with anything you are saying!

@Marcus Auerbach- Thank you for your reply.  I think that is very sound advice!  Like I said, I have gone around and around on this topic.  I have spoken with several investors who know me, know my strengths and my shortcomings.  They also know the markets I am targeting and they know my goals for investing in real estate.  Through all these discussions, I have decided that using a professional management to start is best for me (I understand it may not be best for everyone).  At this point I am wanting to make sure I am asking the right questions to maximize my decision to hire property manager moving forward.  Knowing what you know now, I would love to know what questions you would ask a property manager if you had to turn one of your properties over to one!

Thanks again!  Your advice is truly appreciated!

I am a newbie investor from Grand Rapids, Michigan and I am looking to get into long-term rentals in West Michigan (Grand Rapids, Grand Haven, Holland Muskegon, etc.) I have gone around and around but decided that when I find a property, I want to have it professionally managed. While I don’t have a property yet, I am getting to the point where I want to start networking and interviewing property management companies for two reasons:

  • To help determine the best fit for me once I do complete a purchase on a property
  • Help better understand the market that I am targeting (what tenants are looking for, rental rates, etc.)

Does anyone have any advice on questions I should be asking in these initial networking interviews?

@Trevor Finton Hey Trevor, that is awesome advice, and congrats on your first property!

I will definitely check out those podcasts/books. I won’t be able to attend the meet-up tonight, but is that something that is regularly held? I would love to attend in the future.

Thanks so much for taking the time for your recommendation. I really appreciate it!
