Welcome to BP.  I'm a newbie as well and also hope to get to one of those get-togethers some day.  Maybe I'll see you there!

 Welcome to Bigger Pockets!

I wish we could fine tune those keywords a little more.  I'm sure I'll get a tone of hits for all the bays across the country.  Thanks for the warm welcome!

Having lived in the bay area most of my life, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anybody who remains at the same job for 10 years and stays in the same rental for a long time.  The M.O. in the bay seems to be in and out in a few years.  At least that has been my experience.  In fact, this is the first time in a LONG time that the address on my DL is my actual address!

Also, about five years ago, I rented a home with two members of my family.  We were all on the lease and all responsible for the home.  I ended up leaving before the lease expired, but I was still responsible for the rent and I paid my share until I found somebody to take my place.  Most rental leases are only a year and those go by fairly quickly.

Like everybody else says, the three engineering students sound promising.  Also, if they go to Santa Clara University, they have money or their family has money.  You should be fine.

Thanks, @Elizabeth Russell

I was a bit hesitant about an hour long webinar, but ended up sticking around the whole hour and a half!  Got the free book too!

Best of luck to you too!  I was not aware there was another Moscow... especially in Idaho!

Hi Shea.  Nice to see another San Jose newbie like myself.  I like eating good food too, but could never afford to go out.  So I found a way around that!  My girlfriend became a very good cook!  That's not meant to be sexist or anything.  She actually enjoys cooking and it just works out that i love eating!

Wishing you the best of luck and we'll probably cross paths someday.  From another San Jose newbie with a VERY Irish name, I wish you the best of luck.

What do you mean you have no experience?  It may have been a bad experience, but it's definitely experience and you obviously know what to do the next time.

Just welcoming another bay area newbie as I'm one myself.  Don't work too much, Bryan.  All work and no play makes jack a dull boy.

Hello, everybody!  My name is Brendan and I was introduced to biggerpockets.com by my brother.  He also turned me on to "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki and that book really opened my eyes.  I have always felt "trapped" in the "rat race" but could never express or share my frustration in detail the way Kiyosaki does.

I've been living in the south bay for just about all of my life.  I know this area is difficult to get started in, but I'm hoping to find my niche.  Ideally I would like to have rental properties and do some flips.  I'm in a "holding pattern" of sorts until later this year, so I'm learning what I can in that time.  I have no past real estate experience other than being a renter.  I have done some light construction (alarm installation, conduit, etc.) and am a good handyman or jack of all trades if you will.  However, i would say my best quality is my drive and attention to detail.

Some of my passions include ice hockey, fitness, European cars (Audi/VW), and music.  I hope to be back playing at Sharks' Ice by the end of the year with my two brothers who also play.  I work out religiously and have found it to be one of the best things I have ever done for myself.  I'm mainly into the home videos (Insanity, T25, etc.) but have done weights in the past as well as yoga, cross-fit, etc.  Can't wait to have another Audi or VW but that will have to wait.  Business first, then toys, right?  I play a variety of instruments but I'm not great at any of them.  However, I can fudge my way through a song and that's just fine with me.  I also sing and write music and hope to have some of that available soon.

What I'm hoping to get out of BP is information and a network.  I came to the realization that WHO you know is usually more important that WHAT you know.  And I came upon that the hard way.  But I'm not afraid of change. In fact, I enjoy the challenge.

I actually signed up a few weeks ago, but attended my first webinar tonight with Brandon.  He even answered one of my questions!  Did you know he owns the house that Kurt Cobain grew up in?  One of the things he wanted us to do was "take action", so here I am!
