Stanly Hernandez. Hi Stanly, no, I actually don't drive to San Diego, I talk with Jeff over the phone or by email when I need to. I am investing in Texas, not in California at all.

Really, for someone starting out, I will tell you what someone who has been investing for several years told me at one of the FIBI meetings I went to: For the next 4 to 6 months, attend as many FIBI meetings as possible (drive to any and all that are in the LA and Orange County area), do all the reading you can on BiggerPockets, read as many books as you can on investing. Then you can start to look for someone to team up with. Be careful and do your do diligence. Ask around at the meetings and find out about someone before teaming up with them.

Hi Stanly Hernandez. I found the FIBI meetings though meetup.com.

Manhattan Beach meeting at: http://www.meetup.com/fibisouthbayrealestateinvestmentclub/ and Long Beach meeting at: http://www.meetup.com/forinvestorsbyinvestors/ are the closest ones to us.

There are other meetings too. Just do a search on the meetup site. Attend some meetings and I'm sure it can help you with finding a mentor, as well as getting some great knowledge. I am working with Jeff Brown, who is in San Diego. He's not local, but I am also not investing locally anyway. Too expensive in our area. :)

Let me know if there's anything else!

Thanks Brandon!

Jeff, Joe and I were glad to be able to get out to your neck of the woods and meet with you. Great sandwiches and knowledge!

Hello Everyone!

My name is Sandy and I am new to investing. I have been doing some reading here on BiggerPockets for a while, but I needed to officially introduce myself!

My husband and I are currently purchasing a duplex in Texas with the help of Jeff Brown, as we are trying to grow our retirement portfolio.

I am currently reading everything I can get my hands on, as well as starting to attend more FIBI meetings in my area. I am interested in having my own investing business, so that I can use the proceeds to further fund other areas of our retirement plan. I need to find my niche, so that I can concentrate on getting mentors in that area. Right now I am looking at more information on flipping, as well as mobile homes. They both interest me, but I need to see what will work the best for me and the area here in Southern California, so I'm still doing lots of reading and will be asking questions at the meetings I attend.

I've been reading the new guide that BiggerPockets recently posted (Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Real Estate Investing) and that's been great, as well as all the great resources here. If there's anyone who's local to my area (San Pedro, CA) and would like to talk, I'd love to buy you a coffee at a local Starbucks office. :)

Thank you to everyone who contributes to all of this wonderful information here on BiggerPockets! You guys and gals are all fantastic!

Sandy
