Bill, I use a simple, but effective marketing technique to lease my rentals and sell homes. I make a video of each home and post ads on Craigslist pointing to the videos on YouTube. Simple, free, and effective. I've gotten comments like "my wife says she has to have this house, she must of watched the video 10 times."

I appear in the videos, so my prospective tenants feel like they know me, so there is some rapport from the start.

I see some nicely produced house marketing videos on YouTube with very few views. Why they don't promote their videos more is beyond me.

You film these yourself? Do you use an off the shelf camera?

Can you estimate the ballpark cost you have into it?

Have you done any kind of split testing to measure the effectiveness of this?

It's not that it isn't my focus, I just want to step beyond the growing tired meme of social media and explore how real estate investors are using technology. Your video example is the type of thing I had in mind.

I think by virtue of your presence here, you already realize that people are using places like BiggerPockets to do many things like educating themselves, making deals, and more. Feel free to lurk around; of course, as you're using our site for your research, I'd hope that BiggerPockets would get a mention as a resource in your upcoming book?

Good luck and we'll see you around!

PS - Don't forget to let us know when the book is out.

I was thinking more along the lines of technology they use to run their business... but...

I'd absolutely be interested in hearing from those using a site like this to educate themselves. It would be interesting to know how they filter the copious and possibly conflicting advice they read. That would apply to any site they use for education, not just here, but in general.

As for the mention, as you may or may not know, the publisher controls if and how resource listings are included.

I am a journalist researching how real estate investors are using technology for a book. If you are using technology in a unique or creative way and want to share your experiences I'd be happy to pick your brain.

I expect to be lurking a lot and asking questions. Sadly, I don't know that I have anything meaningful to contribute to the conversations but we will see I guess.
