My fiance and I are new to real estate investing and she is the primary in this venture.  She's a Corporate Financial Manager making good money and I am an IT Project Manager making pretty good money, but she is feeling a little disillusioned with her career and says she's always wanted to flip houses.  As such, we went to a "guru" seminar which was a waste of time (Nick Vertucci... got our money back) and are now trying to read everything we can and are talking to others for advice.

This is more her thing than mine and I'm still on the fence.   I support her, but am just not sure how much I want to be involved yet or put my savings at risk.  I've read testimonials of success stories, but haven't really heard from anyone who's lost money, particularly on their first venture.  I'm not trying to dwell on the negative, but rather would like to get a more realistic picture of how much of a financial risk this is, as we'll likely be using much of our/her own funds.  I don't expect to have huge success out of the gate, but don't want to lose our collective shirts either.

What has been your experience when starting out?

Thanks so much in advance.

Hello all!

My name is Bill Thompson and my fiance is Nancy Storlie.  Nancy currently works as a Financial Manager for a large corporation and I work as a Project Manager for a different large corporation.   Due to some disenfranchisement with our professions and a desire to expand to new income streams and build retirement investments, we are beginning down the path of Real Estate investment and house flipping.

We are still very new to this concept and are in the information gathering phase.  We just attended a paid 3-day seminar for the Nick Vertucci Real Estate Academy and learned a little, but not nearly what we'd hoped.  We did NOT let them talk us into the "bus tour" and I did get Nick to refund our money for the seminar as it was more or less a waste of time, so now we're reading everything we can, watching pod cast's and talking to Realtor friends and some family who have made a life of flipping houses to gain any knowledge they can provide, and also engaging Bigger Pockets for advice.  We're open to any direction anyone is willing to give us as to how best to get started, financing, networking, incorporating, purchasing, contracts, negotiating, wholesaling, etc.

Thanks in advance to anyone out there willing to respond and we look forward to participating with this group and also helping others once we get some experience under our belt.

Bill
