Does anyone know about building such a foyer?

I asked about this at an egress company recently and it was 30k. Ugh!

Update - the place I’m looking at has the basement door directly next to the door from the garage. How involved would it to be to build a wall around these, like when you open the door from the garage you have two doors, one to the basement and one to the rest of the house?

One suggestion - several friends of mine in NYC have bought places in the Catskills, a couple of hours away. Home prices are MUCH lower, in the 200s, and one friend has now bought two properties, both as a weekend place (they are there full time now due to COVID) and to rent on AirBnB.

Hi James, thanks! I am definitely planning on living in the unit -- the whole reason I'm even thinking of house hacking is so that I can afford to live in the Boulder area without being house poor. The only place I could do it in my immediate area is Old Town Lafayette (Louisville is too pricy for me now, sadly) and it's hard to find places with a separate entrance, which is probably the only way I'd feel comfortable. However, I'm looking at a place today...

I love the Hudson Valley, and I'd say you will likely get a whole bunch of people fleeing NYC who would like to rent the basement.

So great you found a place with a separate entrance! I am trying...

Thank you all! I’m committed to west of 287 since I drive back and forth, so I know I won’t find a place currently zoned. Was thinking about a kitchenette not a full kitchen. Normally I’d be fine w a semi roommate situation but not so sure w COVID.

Following, though I don't intend to rent the whole thing at any point soon. Are you seeing basements with a separate entrance? I'm finding that hard to find in the Boulder, CO area.

Hi all,

I’m a single parent looking to house hack via a basement suite rental in Boulder County, CO. Mostly looking at Louisville and Lafayette, for anyone who knows the area.

Most SFH don't have a separate entrance for their basements, and it seems quite expensive to put one in. Any thoughts on whether it's worth it, or if it's possible to make a basement suite work without one? Thanks!
