TL;DR
I’m new to the DMV area and am looking for opportunities to connect– Feel free to reach out here! I’m also looking for suggestions on meetups (REIAs, investing clubs, etc.), references for investor-friendly agents in the DMV area, or potential opportunities to partner.

Hey everyone!

I stumbled across my original BP introduction last night and it felt like finding a forgotten time capsule. It's been years since I first joined the BiggerPockets community and I want to use this as an opportunity to reintroduce myself and give an update on my progress since this original post.

So much has happened in the last 7 years–

About 2.5 years ago, my wife, who’s travel nurse, and I left Atlanta to travel all over the US. We've lived in some amazing places like Missoula, Denver, Palm Springs, Tacoma, South Lake Tahoe, Nashville, Boston, and DC. We've had some amazing experiences and made lots of great memories while traveling the US, but now we're ready to plant some roots in the DMV area.

I bought my first and only property back in 2018 and started managing it myself. I picked up some valuable lessons on what to do, and maybe more importantly, what not to do. Before moving out of Atlanta, I sought out a property management company, which showed me long-distance investing definitely possible– so long as you have the right team in place.

Luckily, these experiences haven’t scared me off yet and I’m hoping to continue building my portfolio over the next several years. Medium-term rentals seem particularly enticing having just stayed in furnished rentals throughout our travels since 2020.  Now that we're slowing down a bit, I’m just starting to get back into research-mode by listening BiggerPockets podcasts and dusting off some RE literature.

If anyone in the DMV area would like to connect, feel free to reach out! I’m looking for suggestions on meetups (REIAs, investing clubs, etc.), references for investor-friendly agents in the DMV area, or potential opportunities to partner. As a full-time analytics consulting manager, I’m particularly skilled in data analytics, communication / presentations, all things technology, and project management.

Cheers to the next 7 years,

Ben

Hey everyone! I've been using Bigger Pockets for several months now, so I thought I should finally go ahead and introduce myself on the forums. I'm an aspiring investor from Nashville, TN, who's been living in Atlanta, GA since early 2015. I graduated from The University of Tennessee, and currently work for Home Depot as a senior analyst in international logistics. Some of my hobbies include:

  • Learning about real estate
  • Speaking/Learning Portuguese
  • Playing guitar/drums
  • Traveling (visiting Iceland in August)
  • Reading
  • Soccer/Basketball/Hiking/Snowboarding
  • Building websites/learning code

I know it’s cliché, but I originally became interested in real estate while reading Rich Dad Poor Dad. The concept of passive income really piqued my interest, and since then, I’ve been reading as much as possible about real estate investing, and listening to the BiggerPockets podcasts each day to and from work. My goal is to buy my first property (preferably multi-family) by January 2017 and “house hack.”

If anyone in the Atlanta area would like to connect, please feel free to reach out to me! I’m pretty computer savvy, and could help build you a website, or assist with online marketing in exchange for knowledge. I’m also looking for an investor-friendly real-estate agent if anyone has references.

Cheers,

Ben Williams
