Raquel Barela thanks for the article, that was very insightful. The house was built in 1975 so it likely does have asbestos, I will have to get this tested. This will be my residence and I think it will really help for a quicker sale down the road if I go ahead and get rid of the popcorn ceilings, it may take some time and a lot of effort but I don't see it hurting the value of the home in any way. Thanks for all of the input and I will try and keep everyone updated once I get this project underway.

Thanks for the advice. The house will be completely empty so I think this is the first thing I will start on. I would like to do as much of this on my own as possible, if all I really need is a pump sprayer and a scraper that shouldn't be a problem, I'll likely hire someone to do the drywall after I get all of this done.

What is the process for removing "popcorn" drywall from a ceiling and will this be worth the cost of doing so? I plan on painting the entire house as well as new floors on most of it. I will be living here for a few years. Anything else I'm not considering? Thanks!

I am looking to buy a HUD home as an OO and was wondering if HUD has already paid property taxes for the year or will I pay a prorated share at closing? I intend on purchasing title insurance and having an inspection done on the property, just trying to get an idea of any costs I may not be accounting for. If you have experience purchasing HUD homes any input is appreciated.
