I personally met with an investor I met here on BiggerPockets and just asked in person which wholesalers they recommended. He gave me a list of 3 which I promptly reached out to.

I recommend looking on BiggerPockets and connecting with people in your area and reaching out.

I'm a beginner as well and I'm talking to and trying to meet everyone I can to absorb as much knowledge and wisdom as possible. Meeting people and talking about how they do things in person is free and a really great way to get started!

@Ethan G. I replied to you on BiggerPockets - weird that you didn't get it because it shows in my inbox as "Sent". I'll go ahead and send you an email.

Hi all!

I'm a Houston local currently renting in the Heights area. I've come to a point where I have a sizable amount of savings and I'd like to get more involved in a more tangible investment (not purely stock market). Real estate is something I've always been excited to try, and now feels like the right time.

I've done a decent amount of reading and learning thus far, and I've settled that I'd like to start off by purchasing a duplex/triplex property that I can live in, and rent out the other units (essentially House Hacking).

If there are any investors, brokers or people involved in REI in the Houston area, I would love to meetup and grab a coffee (I'll buy).

I'm also not afraid to get my hands dirty, and am willing to help out with anything in exchange for knowledge. I can also paint, clean, build or fix pretty much anything cosmetically. Anything that can help me get involved with hands-on experience I'll donate my time.

I can also design and build websites, marketing materials etc (I'm a full-time professional designer and web-developer).

If you are in the Houston area and have an opportunity for me to learn and give you a helping hand, please reach out! I'll only preface that I work a full-time job from Mon - Fri, but I am typically available anytime during weekends, or early morning/later evenings during weekdays.

Looking forward to meeting and learning from you guys here in BiggerPockets community!

-Axel

I have some website feedback for the BiggerPockets staff (not sure if this is the right place to post it, but I couldn't find a feedback forum).

As a new user, I've found navigating the forums pretty tedious and difficult. I'm in Houston, and finding the local forums for Houston wasn't really obvious.

I think to actually find it, I had to go to Google and literally search "BiggerPockets Houston Forum" to find it.

My suggestions would be:
1. When you're using "Search" on BiggerPockets, include possible Forum Names in the results. Right now it just returns forum posts (not the forums themselves)

2. Under "Browse Forums" menu dropdown, show the "Houston Forum" near the top. If you can automatically detect the location of the user (via IP address, or profile location), you should be able to automatically detect which local forums he/she might be interested in.

3. When you click on "Show All Local Real Estate" button in dropdown, make it more obvious on how to view sub-forums. Right now they're hidden under the "Show 51 Sub Forums" link. If this link was more prominent, it would of been easier to spot. Suggestion: turn "Other Forums Show 51 sub-forums" into two tabs called "Posts" and "Sub-Forums (51)".

4. Consider adding a "Feedback" forum for the community to provide feedback for the BiggerPockets team to help improve the site. Feedback could be ranked by the community which could help the BiggerPocket team know which feedback to prioritize.
