I use Triplog. The part that attracted it to me is how is actuates when my smartphone makes the Bluetooth connection to my car. Pretty much just leave the app running in the background and forget about it. I find it rarely fails to start, and that’s generally when my phone’s Bluetooth is occupied. But, it’s been running fine for months now.
