My wife and I live in Norfolk, Va and are looking to invest nearby. We have been trying to get more involved in our local community to network and continue to learn but Covid restrictions seems to be having different plans as Meetups are very limited right now and those still running usually fall in our work hours.

Is there anyone out there locally that would want to meet up, network, discuss real estate, talk about the current real estate market etc. We are motivated to get out there and connect and learn and want and need to take action! Thanks everybody!

Thank you so much for your time and effort into this post! It is obviously very alarming hearing these things. I actually made this post partly due to some posts I read from you and others in these forums and was looking to see if things have changed or remained the same over the years.

I’m hesitant in where to buy I’m Portsmouth but have come to like the park view area as it seems to be up and coming, renting very well, and near a lot including the hospital. It will also be close to the rivers casino when done in 2023 which has me intrigued. Any thoughts on these additions to Portsmouth?

Hello Everybody!

My wife and I are still working through getting our first investment opportunity and we feel were getting close. A lot of opportunities are steering us towards the Portsmouth, Virginia area. I've read some older posts in here about some government annoyances and issues of this sort but nothing more recent. With the naval hospital in the area, and a casino coming to the city soon it does feel like an area of good potential opportunity and growth.

Also a few off market properties have been dealing with contract owners. Is there anything to be cautious of in these situations? Thanks in advance!

Post: What to do for our first downpayment

Hey everybody!

I can definitely feel like my wife and I are getting close to our first investment property which were getting pretty excited about. We are currently torn on the accessible downpayment to have on hand. Our current situation is: We would have enough reserves for a down payment for something under 100K as we speak, most likely a SFH in our area, without shifting anything around. Multi-families seem like a good deal in our area and is what were hoping for but would boost the ask price to at least 150ish.

We could make the down payment happen for a multi but it would require pulling from other investments ie mutual funds, ind. stocks to make it happen. I was wondering if anyone had any input or advice on what they believed is the smart move in this situation? If we should just keep it small for our first property and let the investments do their thing or pull the trigger on a multi and shift things around if it comes up?

I know the ROI comparison of both are important to look at here, which investments have grown nicely as of late but I don't control their future and we are really trying to get our first property locked in to get in the game, or at least be prepared for when it comes up. Thanks in advance for the input everyone, it's greatly appreciated!

What's up everybody!

I'm here with my wife at the start of our journey in REI. We are over the top excited about getting things rolling and being about of this community. We are based out of Norfolk, Virginia and hope to start investing locally in the Hampton Roads area before expanding elsewhere. We are extremely motivated and hoping to find some others out there to connect with to learn from and help them along their journey in any way we can as well. We are open to diving into whatever rentals that churn out good numbers in our area (SFH, MFH), and can't wait to start and grow our portfolio and hope to connect with as many as possible along the way.

My wife and I new to the area so any locals out there please reach out as we would love to chat, and meet, and get to know the local REI community!
