Post: Looking for a Mentor...

I am 17 years old, and I want to get into real estate investing. I have most of the knowledge of a beginner and could really use that extra guidance to make sure I am focusing on the right things and making good decisions. If there is anyone on here that does 1 on 1 coaching or knows of someone, please reach out to me. Aside from that, there are many other things I'd would like professional advice on like stock trading, and home service business scaling that I am interested in using to build the funds for succesful real estate investing. In summary I need a mentor.

Quote from @Alan Asriants:

As others have mentioned, PLEASE DON"T BUY A GURUS COURSE. You can find plenty of information in books totaling $100 bucks.

Going to college is entirely up to you. I think college can be valuable for certain professions, and not for others. For example, if you plan on being a doctor, Attorney engineer, then college can be extremely valuable. In fact, it's really the only option for those degrees. Althouhg some engineering roles might not need a degree.

Consider going into trade school. There is so much demand for good contractors. Plus you'll learn a lot about homes!

When you have the income and the money saved up, get yourself a househack, then you can worry about investing into real estate using the knowledge you learned from those books.

Good luck man!

Thanks for your response! What books would you recommend? How much does trade school cost and how many years would I have to attend? What kind of contracting professions are there?

Quote from @Caleb Brown:

Don't buy a course. How scalable is the landscaping company? Do you love or hate it? If you like it focus on scaling that. It is a great business. I would look up Mike Andes on YT, he does great at giving tips regarding it. Once you have more money saved do a house hack. Being an agent will take a year or so to get off the ground so be prepared if you go that route. Stay living at home as long as you can till you can house hack. Most importantly be patient, you are 17 :)

Thank you for your feedback! I have 130 favorites and around 20-30 recommendations on my NextDoor business page. I have been building it for the past 3 years. I hired my first employee just this weekend. I do love it, but I would love it even more if I could own it, make money from it, and not have to work for it. How do I find people that are interested in house hacking? I am interested in being a real estate investor, is that what you mean by "being an agent"?

Quote from @Aristotle Kumpis:

This is a loaded question. Since you are still young, you will most likely change careers multiple times before you really learn what you love to do for work. Selling real estate(agent) is completely different than being an investor. The majority of investors, including myself, work full or part time. We use that money to invest in real estate. Sure, there are a handful of people that are full time investors. But I have found over the years that all the guru's that advertise courses are not even investing. So like Derrick said, I probably would not recommend you throw money at a course. I have seen people spend $20K, $40K, or even $60K at courses and they still never did a deal.

I never finished college and I'm angry at myself for not completing it. I was too excited to get out there and make money. So I suffered for a long time financially. You will have a long time out there working, so I suggest you go to college. A degree is something not only to fall back on, but also gives you skills. You can always invest in real estate.

Thanks for the feedback! What degrees in college would assist and build my education in real estate investing?

Get a W2 job in the real estate, construction or related industry. You can start to learn the business, build a resume, and build credit. This will set you up to get future loans. Go to a community college and take classes in accounting, finance, and real estate, math, and work towards a degree. A degree will open doors to a higher paying W2 allowing you to get higher loan amounts to continue to scale. Keep saving money and reading books.  Thank your parents for letting you live rent free.

I like the way you think, thank you for the feedback! What things should I look up or get more information on if I were interested in a W2 job?

Quote from @Derrick E.:

My free advice, don’t pay for some real estate investing course. You can find all of the info here on this site and the internet in general.

Thank you for your feedback! How can I use this platform to learn? What do you recommend I do here to get the most value?

I am 17 years old, I have no debt, and I live rent free with my parents. I have $10,500 to my name and want to invest it and put my money to work; however, I don't mind spending a few dollars on a reliable course or towards my financial education. Not sure if this is necessary but I have my own landscaping business that I work for making me self-employed or in the "S-quadrant" of "The Cashflow Quadrant". I am here seeking professional advice from someone who has walked the walk and can guide me where to go from here.

Some of my goals are listed below:

My main goal at the moment is to find assistance in forming a financial plan with the help of a mentor.

My other goals once I have established a plan:

- Short Term: "I will obtain a cash flowing real estate property within the next year.

- Long term:  "I will have more than or about 5-10 cashflow producing assets making me 5-10k a month in profit.

Some questions I have once I find a reliable mentor are:

- What is the best way I can invest my money?

- Should I go to college part time? What are the advantages and disadvantages of going to college or not going to college for someone in my situation?

- Any feedback on my goals? Any goal setting strategies that helped you?

- What are the benefits of a real estate license? Do I need one? Should I get one? When should I get one? How do I get one?

I know this is a lot, and I do not expect a reply that replies to each thing I mentioned... although that would be nice. If there is any needed information in order to help me that I left out, please mention it. Anyways, to sum everything up, I need a mentor.
