I spoke to my bank and they won't cash it even if he signs it. He has to have an account in order to get the check cashed. He was an abusive person who has since become a felon so talking to him is out of the question. I'll just bite the bullet and tear up the $1900 check.

It was done over the phone and the lease was signed electronically so all I have is a copy of the lease with only my signature and initials on it.

Well I don't want to break the law, so are there any legal options?

Years ago I moved into an apartment with a boyfriend. He moved out, his name was removed from the lease and I lived there for a few years alone. A couple years ago, the building was sold to new owners and has a new property management firm operating it. The old property management company is out of business. When I moved out recently, the new management sent the security deposit check and made it out to both of us. I don't speak to him and he lives across the country now. Even though the electronic copy of the lease only has my signature on it now, they claim that the check still comes to both of us. If they don't change it, I won't be able to cash the check and get my deposit back. This is a very unique case and I can't find any information about it on any forum. Does anybody know of a way to resolve this? The check was written with an "and" not an "or" so it has to be signed by both of us.
