Snow is not an issue! I work in Terrebonne until 5-5:30 though so I will likely not be there until 6.

Haley,

I happen to be that BP member that @Ian burg helped buy a house for! I have a duplex in Redmond with a tenant who pays over half my mortgage, and a friend in my second bedroom that reimburses me for utilities and food. My total payment is about $100, although I could easily rent my spare room for more and pay nothing. I just wanted to help out a friend and offered it to them instead.

Redmond is a good area and prices aren't too bad here yet. I am obviously bias because I live here, but it is certainly worth looking into. The weather is normally quite nice as well. A lot of sunshine, and endless amounts of activities to do outside. Also, Ian is great to work with, which made everything I had to do, really easy!

@AJ Singh Yep, pretty much how it is here! Everything I've looked at so far is unable to cover my portion of rent completely, and would cash flow about $100 (or $50/unit) once I move. Either that or it has negative cash flow once I moved out. Haven't been looking long though, or searching anywhere but the MLS. So my view is pretty narrow!

I'm just outside of Bend, Oregon and it's about the same here. Most people I have talked to are house hacking, just as I plan to do! I plan to use an FHA loan with 10% or less down and live on one side.

We live in the state apparently everyone wants to be in! Although I can't blame them. :D

Welcome to BP! I'm in Oregon and starting on my real estate journey as well with similar goals. Always nice to see others on the west coast!

@Ian Berg that is good to hear! I haven't done nearly as much scouting as I would like to as I am still waiting to have a thorough discussion to create a set plan with my mom. I know my goals and what I want, but I need to clarify what she is intending for this first property. You will certainly be hearing from me soon, thank you!

Josh Garner that is kind of what I was picking up on as well. It also doesn't help that I need to live in Redmond as I have to be close to my job in Terrebonne, and there are even fewer duplexes here! I feel like I live on 1 of the 2 streets in Redmond that actually have duplexes. I know that is probably not true, but that's certainly how it feels!

@Kory Thaut that's awesome to hear! I haven't looked in to BP meetups yet but I'll make sure to do that soon.

And hello @Jon Kampen! It's slightly comforting to know I am not alone in Oregon on my journey into real estate! Also, I did have to take a second look at your last name since it is so similar to mine!

Hello BP community!

I am 26 years old and currently work full time in central Oregon at a job that I very much enjoy. I live in Redmond, Oregon and I am in pursuit of forming passive sources of income with the eventual goal of financial freedom. As of right now I am looking for a property I can house hack, or at least live in with minimal expenses, with the intent of saving more for another down payment. My mom also has interest in owning property in central Oregon, and we will be investing in the first property together. After the first deal I intend to invest on my own. I plan to focus on multi-family units, but am also interested in single family homes.

I have been listening to the BP podcasts from episode 1 and digging through all of the BP resources. I stumbled across BP when someone mentioned it in the comments section of another blog and have been educating myself ever since!

If there is anyone else who is located in Redmond or Bend Oregon I would love to talk to you!
