The MLS is the multiple listing service, where an agent/broker/realtor has been retained by a seller. The seller can be a bank, agency, estate or homeowner. Residential, commercial, industrial...anything listed for sale with an agent that is offered for sale via the MLS.

Ok, so when a person says they bought straight off the MLS, the seller is undefined. Am a I incorrect in assuming that all the best deals are REO?

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, a question from a newbie.

I've listened to maybe a couple dozen podcasts at this point and the guests sometimes mention they purchased straight off the MLS. Am I right to assume they are buying REO properties from banks or are they buying from home owners? My whole point here is that I can save big time money buying REO properties from banks.

Hi Tim!

Thanks for saying hello and letting me know about the meetup. I wish I could make it but I’ll be on the road for work that day. Hopefully I can make it to the next one.

Much thanks,

Andrew

I am in Scarborough most days and would be happy to meet up for coffee or lunch and discuss REI. I am a Realtor, as well as an investor and developer, and am always willing to help in any way that I can.

Best of luck on your journey!

Hi Harrison, thanks for introducing yourself to me!

Unfortunately I’ll be working the day of that meeting. Hopefully I can make it to the next one.

I’d definitely like to meet up with you for lunch or coffee though.

Thanks again!

Hi, I’m new to this business and am pretty excited to have found Bigger Pockets. I’m from Scarborough, Maine.

I currenty drive a tractor trailer over the road. I got divorced about two years ago and have been driving ever since. I’m getting my finances and credit score back in order and figure I will settle back down in Maine in about 6 months to a year.

My goal initially is to purchase an REO duplex, utilizing a VA loan, which will be my primary residence. I then plan on flipping at least one house and seeing how that goes.

I’d love to hear from anyone, especially fellow Mainers! Are there any clubs or meet ups that I could attend in Maine? Any posts or forums I should pay special attention to?

Thanks everyone!
