I've seen these holes in 2 separate non-adjacent walls. I'll contact pest control today..

I just recently bought my first home and now as in rehabbing room to room I found there's small holes in the walls of 2 of the bedrooms.. I don't recall seeing these just few weeks ago although I may have missed them, inspector didn't report anything unusual either.. I'm starting to wonder if this might be termite damage or something else.. any ideas? Will attach photos in comment

Thanks a lot! That was a very informative example and way of seeing things. I've decided to not make the single payment PMI and just go with the month-to-month alternative. I understand there's no way for me to know what the market will do but even if the home appreciated at a bare 3% rate the PMI would go away rather soon :)

What do you think the appreciation rates will look like in this area for the next 3-4 years? Personally I don't think they'll keep going as high as last few years, but who knows. I'm currently considering doing a single-payment PMI on a hold-and-wait property. Not planning to perform home upgrades that increase the property value any time soon. Thoughts?
