I'm obviously a super newbie, just thinking through options to get started. My husband and I have a ton of equity in our home that could be a line of credit towards upgrades, however wondering about putting it towards a first investment property instead. Is that a terrible idea??

@Christopher Lane A couple of personal points for your personal post, haha...I had a beautiful navy blue Honda Pilot that I LOVED before our 4th baby came along and we needed to use a carseat again. The Pilot rides high and it's a pain climbing up and down with a baby. We promptly switched to the classic mom mobile-silver Honda Odyssey. It's the PERFECT vehicle for kids (and no, I do not work for Honda!).

Secondly, I believe this whole experience is exactly what you and your wife need to go through before starting your family. There is nothing like kids to bring up unresolved issues! Take any issue and multiply it by 1,000 with the stress of kids in the house. So continue to work through it and take it as an opportunity to prepare for success in ALL areas of your life! If you're open to it, couples counseling could accelerate these conversations toward agreement more quickly while strengthening your relationship overall.

Wow RJ! That's a lot to be going through. I have two daughters myself (11 and 13), I can only imagine the weight of what's happening. I LOVE your "real" message to them, "that these children will never feel unloved, unwanted or a burden." What a beautiful gift of grace you are giving your daughters! May your open heart overflow into your new ventures. Something I learned years ago is that we are driven by two things: love or fear. Love is the most powerful driver for powerful and positive forward movement while fear keeps us small. May LOVE continue to be your driver!

On a practical note, my husband and I have started using the Dave Ramsey seven baby steps method for tackling debt. It's awesome! https://www.daveramsey.com/baby-steps

Happy 2019 everyone!!

Just listened to the new year webinar and I'm pumped! (Or stoked, as a true Southern Californian should say!) Looking forward to learning from everyone all the good, the bad, and the ugly of RE investing...I have a LOT to learn. I'm not in the biz (yet). My husband and I would LOVE to start investing in real estate and generating passive income and wealth to pass on to our kids.

My big "why" is that I am staying home with my one year old now but will need to start earning income again in a couple of years. If I can get going with this, maybe I can stay home more of the time rather than being held down by a 9-5.

Anyway, nice to meet you! May this year be a great success for you all!
