Hey Amanda! aw congratulations on passing your RE agent exam, no small feat!

& there are many brokerages out there and usually if there is a lot of training, commissions will be reduced which you should be prepared for that since you are a newer agent. When I joined initially as a first time real estate agent back in 2019, I went under Keller Williams in Orland Park, and then I moved to eXp and I just recently joined Epique Realty.

Let me know if you want to chat about your options!

Thank you Eudith for taking the time to reply! I am looking for a brokerage that provides a lot of training and preferably downtown or surrounding neighborhoods. Please let me know if you have any company recs that have agent mentors also interested in pursuing real estate investing!

Hi @Amanda Biondo - Congrats on passing your exam!!  Big accomplishment and the start of new opportunities!

If you are looking to crush it in the leasing game, I'd suggest checking out The Apartment Source, which is one of the leading leasing companies here in Chicago.  Happy to make a connection for you.

Your commission and split will be laid out by your managing broker. It's pretty common to get half a month's rent, which is then split between you and your brokerage.

My best advice is to focus completely on finding a company or mentor who is at the top of their game and NOT AT ALL ON THE MONEY.  You will go so much further if you get your fundamentals nailed!

Thank you Jonathan for this feedback and recommendation!

Quote from @John Warren:

@Amanda Biondo welcome to the forums! What area do you live in/want to work in? What type of real estate are you hoping to do? That will determine what type of brokerage is the right fit as you learn. You will need to decide if you want a shop that has a lot of training, or if you want a small boutique shop, or even a flat fee brokerage.

I am not sure if you have been following the news, but the whole world has just changed for agents with the way rental and buy side commission is done. There has never been a standard commission of course (anti-trust laws), but now it is a very different time than it was the last few years!

Thank you for the feedback, John! I live in River North and preferably would like to work in downtown Chicago and surrounding neighborhoods but open to the suburbs as well. I am looking for a brokerage that has a lot of training (I'm okay with lower commission starting out).

I'm interested in learning how to do all - lease, buy, sell, invest! Do agents usually pick one or learn all?

Hello all,

I just passed my residential leasing agent exam and am looking to work as an agent in Chicago, IL.

What companies are recommended for a starting out agent? Any specific agent mentors?

What percentage of commission and fees are typical? (I hope I am asking this question correctly).

Any feedback or recommendations are greatly appreciated!
