Five years later to the day, I’ve come back to BiggerPockets. Feels a little like fate. Do I have anything to show for that time?  That depends on your perspective.  Real estate wise perhaps not so good. I did move out of my then apartment and have bought three successively bigger houses. Not to invest but being exposed to the process was still helpful I think. More importantly I’ve gotten married, had two beautiful children, and moved from my 60 hour a week job to a 30 hour making about the same money in Louisville, KY.  I’ve also planned for my return here by keeping an eye on my finances, keeping my credit scores up, and saving for an investment property down payment.  Now I’m finally able to make good on all those promises to myself.

My new revised short term goal is to buy a cheap, distressed property under 35k in the southern Louisville, KY area with cash within the next three months. Then, rehab, rent, and refinance in line with the famous BRRRR method with an adjustable target at my second investment by this time next year.

Thank you BiggerPockets for being here. Your mere existance has encouraged me to keep reaching for my dreams and the knowledge and encouragement of the community has been invaluable.

Hello,

My name is Andrew Mackiewicz.  I have never invested in real estate before, but after finding this site and the amazing wealth of people and knowledge it presents, I am determined to successfully start.  For a few months now, I've been reading the forums, listening to podcasts, and reading a few of the real estate books suggested here, and believe I will shortly be ready to my first move into the real estate investing game.

I currently reside in Clarksville, TN but have strong reasons to believe I might transfer with my full time job to the Savannah area within the next few months so am looking to invest there.  If anyone has any tidbits of insight into that market before I move there that would be greatly appreciated as well.

My short term plan is to find a multifamily, preferably a triplex, in the Savannah area to live in and learn the process of buying a house and being a landlord.  Within two years of that I'd like to buy a primary residence for my family and I.  About a year after that purchase I'd like to be able to buy my second investment property, most likely another multifamily home in the same area.  My financial goal is to be making enough investment income within five years so that I can at least step down from my managerial position with my company

I admit a lot of this process is very daunting to someone who's never purchased a house even once in his life, but I feel confident, with the support this community gives, I can find the courage to take the plunge past the plague of inaction that grips so many.

Thank you,

Andrew Mackiewicz
